Chemistry (regular and co-op)

Chemistry, the central science, is the study of elements and compounds, their properties and the ways they react to form new substances. From the practical to the theoretical, UOIT exposes students to all major fields of chemistry: physical, analytical, organic, inorganic and biological. Students benefit from exposure to the cutting-edge research interests of faculty members in materials science, electrochemistry, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, and supercritical fluids. Students can follow the comprehensive program or choose to specialize in either Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Chemical Biology.

Courses common to all Chemistry specializations beyond the first year:

  • Advanced Organic Chemistry
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Chemistry Thesis Project I and II
  • Fundamentals of Physical Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry I and II
  • Instrumental Analytical Chemistry I and II
  • Introduction to Organic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Statistics and Probability for Physical Science
  • Structure and Bonding
  • Structure Determination of Organic Molecules
  • Thermodynamics and Kinetics

This program offers a co-op option.
